Sorceresses should try to find ones with good Sorceress skill modifiers, as these will be retained when made into a Runeword. Staves carried by casters are not going to be used as melee weapons, so weapon speed does not count here. Always double check the item's Strength requirements before making the Runeword you don't want to make one your Mercenary is not strong enough to wield! The only issue with the Grim Scythe is that although it has a minimum level of 25 (fine for the level 27 Runeword), it has a required STR of 140, which the Act II Mercenary will not get until level 57. The fastest Polearms are the various Scythes: Scythe and War Scythe (Normal), Battle Scythe and Grim Scythe (Exceptional), and Thresher and Giant Thresher (Elite). The only Polearms you can't use are the Normal, Elite, and Exceptional versions of the Bardiche (Bardiche, Lochabar Axe, and Ogre Axe), as these only have a maximum of 3 sockets. Make sure to check the weapon type carefully you can also use the Polearm Base Items guide below to double-check. You can also use Insight in a bow for an Act I Rogue mercenary on Missile Weapons. Insight in a Polearm for an Act II Desert Wolf Mercenary has transformed the lives of many a mana-hungry class. When patch 2.4 comes out and Insight can be used in Bows, this may also be a good leveling bow for Multishot Bowazons.ĭruid Leveling GuideNecromancer Leveling Build GuideSorceress Leveling Build Guide Sorceresses, Necromancers, and Elemental Druids may all wish to use Insight in Staves in leveling builds. This next section will discuss what classes and specs can make the most out of Insight, and whether you should consider using Insight with your Mercenary follower, what base items to consider, and where to acquire Runes.īest Classes and Specs for the Insight Runeword Runewords vary on their suitability for different classes and specs, as well as utility for the various Mercenaries. This may cause you to want to reroll Insight if you happen to get a bad roll on the Meditation level. When you're running a mana-hungry build, it's a significant difference. At level 12, Meditation increases mana regeneration by 575% with a radius of 22 yards at level 17, it's up 700% with a radius of 28.6 yards. Meditation increases mana regeneration, which goes up by 25% per level and increases the radius of the effect by 1.3 yards per level. The only real issue with this Runeword occurs when you get a very low roll on the Meditation aura. ![]() But the Meditation aura is so strong at mid-levels that the small sacrifices are worth it. It shows some of the problems with any compromise, in that it's average but not spectacular at either job. In fact, its other properties show a remarkably good balance between being a caster weapon (for leveling casters) and a melee weapon (for Act II mercenaries). It's also sometimes used in a staff for casters, as it has good Faster Cast Rate. It still works well as a melee weapon for the Mercenary. The Meditation aura can be a game changer, even to Sorceresses who can regenerate mana with Warmth. Insight is most commonly used as a weapon for an Act II Mercenary, as the Meditation aura is an amazing boon for low-to-mid-game characters that struggle with mana-intensive builds and few tools to deal with it. ![]() Compared to spears, polearms support more rune words, tend to have a shorter reach, and tend to be slower for Amazons, about the same speed for Barbarians, and faster for other classes.Level 12-17 Meditation Aura When Equipped Polearm damage scales with the wielder's Strength, with each point of Strength equivalent to 1% enhanced damage. ![]() Polearms are compatible with Barbarian Polearm Mastery. Desert Mercenary hirelings can equip polearms in the expansion. Polearms are two-handed Melee Weapons in Diablo II.
